When IPL Team Owners Fought With Players
When IPL Team Owners Fought With Players

When emotions get better of these team owners

Sunrisers Hyderabad's stunning 10-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League match prompted a flurry of online reactions on a video featuring LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka and team captain KL Rahul engaged in a heated post-match discussion. The incident, where Goenka is seem lashing out at Rahul following their team's defeat, has gained significant attention. The match saw Sunrisers Hyderabad achieve the biggest win in IPL history by successfully chasing down a 166-run target in just 58 balls at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

"Sanjiv Goenka is the worst team owner in IPL history," tweeted an X user. "He mistreated MS Dhoni at Rising Pune Supergiant and sacked him as captain. The way he is treating KL Rahul now in front of the public is absurd. Whenever you own something, be like Shah Rukh Khan and not like him," the user added.

It's not rare to see team owners and captains at loggerheads because of dismal performances. Goenka has found himself in such a situation previously too, when he sacked MS Dhoni as the captain, drawing the ire of fans. We look at other instances when team owners went overboard in the Indian Premier League.

Ross Taylor Slapped By Rajasthan Royals Owner

Former New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor claimed in his autobiography that he was once slapped by one of the Rajasthan Royals' owners during the 2011 edition of the Indian Premier League. Rajasthan lost the game while chasing 195, and Taylor got out for a duck. At the post-match party on the rooftop bar, the owner came to him and slapped three-four times.

"One of the Royals owners said to me, 'Ross, we didn't pay you a million dollars to get a duck,' and slapped me across the face three or four times. He was laughing and they weren't hard slaps but I'm not sure that it was entirely play-acting. Under the circumstances, I wasn't going to make an issue of it, but I couldn't imagine it happening in many professional sporting environments," wrote Taylor in his autobiography.

Parth Jindal's Animated Gesture

Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal was seen gesturing Rajasthan Royals' skipper Sanju Samson to leave the field during the DC vs RR game this season after the latter was controversially deemed out. Netizens were not pleased with the Jindal's behaviour, calling it a tad disrespectful.

Preity Zinta Abusing Sanjay Bangar

During the 2016 edition of the Indian Premier League, reports emerged that Punjab Kings' co-owner Preity Jindal publicly slammed the head coach Sanjay Bangar, after the team narrowly lost a game. Zinta was furious over Bangar's decision to not promote Axar Patel up the batting order.
