The Beetle is easily one of the most recognisable models in automobile history. Marking the end of an astonishing 80-year-old story, Volkswagen will roll out two final special editions from their Mexico plant, reports Autocar India.

“The loss of the Beetle after three generations, over nearly seven decades, will evoke a host of emotions from the Beetle’s many devoted fans,” said Hinrich Woebcken, the CEO of Volkswagen Group of America.

“As we move to being a full-line, family-focused auto maker in the US and ramp up our electrification strategy with the MEB platform, there are no immediate plans to replace it,” he added.

However, there was also a “never say never” added in his official statement, suggesting that the Beetle may just appear in the future line-ups.
