Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X; Engine, Specs, Power And More
Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X Unveiled; How Much Will They Cost?

The two Triumph motorcycles will be manufactured by Bajaj in Chakan and are expected to cost around Rs 3 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom)

After years of hype, speculation and spy shots later, the fruition of the Bajaj – Triumph partnership is finally here, in the form of the all-new Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X. The two motorcycles were unveiled yesterday in London and soon will be showcased on our shores on July 5.

Starting with the Speed 400, the design elements are similar to its older sibling the Speed Twin 900 and sports an urban roadster looks. The Scrambler 400 X, on the other hand, is derived from the bigger Scrambler 900 and gets off-roady bits like a raised fender, headlight grille and more.

Both motorcycles are powered by the same single-cylinder 400cc liquid-cooled motor which makes 40PS of power and 37.5Nm of torque. For comparison, its immediate competition in the segment the KTM 390 Duke makes 43.5PS of power. And just like the KTM, both Triumph bikes get a 6-speed gearbox.

Feature-list here is quite extensive, consisting of all-LED lighting, ride-by-wire throttle, switchable traction control, a slip-assist clutch, USB-C charging port and a little disappointing semi-digital instrument console.

Underpinnings here consist of a hybrid perimeter frame on both. The Speed 400 though gets 17-inch wheels on both ends, wrapped in Metzeler Sportec M9RR rubber. While the Scrambler gets a 19-inch/17-inch alloy wheel setup with Metzeler Karoo Street tyres. Braking hardware is a bit different too with the Scrambler getting a 320mm unit at the front while the Speed has to settle for a 300mm unit. The former also gets a bit more suspension travel and tips the scale at 179kg compared to the Speed 400’s 170kg.

While Triumph or Bajaj is yet to confirm if the two motorcycles will get a price reveal on July 5, we do expect it to be priced somewhere around Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom) mark for the Speed 400, while the Scrambler 400X may cost a little extra on top of it.
