What’s interesting here is that the Toyota offering is very similarly priced as the Maruti Suzuki flagship, which starts at Rs 10.45 lakh and shares the mild-hybrid powertrain with the Hyryder.
Since we’ve already spoken about the Hyryder in detail, here are some brief highlights. Design-wise, the SUV blends the ruggedness of an SUV with the sophistication of a luxury EV. This can be seen in its sleek bodywork, a very prominent bonnet and overall head-turning silhouette.
The sophistication can be felt within the cabin as well, with premium dual-tone interiors and soft-touch leather panels. You’ll also find a massive 9-inch infotainment system here, which comes with all the required connectivity features.
Speaking of bells and whistles, the Hyryder comes with ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera, a heads-up display and a panoramic sunroof. Meanwhile, safety is taken care of by six airbags, ABS, EBD, VSC, cruise control, hill-hold assist and descent control.
As mentioned earlier, the Hyryder gets a Maruti-sourced 1.5-litre TNGA Atkinson Cycle motor, which makes 116PS of power on the strong hybrid variant. Meanwhile, the mild-hybrid variant makes 103PS of power. While the former can only be had with an eCVT gearbox, the latter comes with either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder competes against the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun and the MG Astor.
