Earlier this Thursday, Toyota launched their iconic Hilux pick-up at Rs 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most expensive vehicle of its kind in India.
Initially announced in January 2022, the all-new Hilux comes in two trim levels – Standard and High.
Performance
Looking under the hood, the Hilux is almost identical to the well-established Toyota Fortuner. Both vehicles use the same 2.8-litre inline-4 diesel powerplant, pushing out 210 PS and 420 Nm of torque. These stats represent the performance you’d expect from the six-speed manual gearbox version – the six-speed automatic offers an additional 80 Nm of torque on tap.
As a go-anywhere machine, the Hilux comes with a long reputation of crossing rivers and rough terrain the world over – that’s where the vehicle’s massive 700mm water-wading capacity comes in handy. Toyota have also added in a bevy of off-road features, including hill descent control, active traction control, and an electronic differential lock.
Features
Toyota usually opts for user-friendly, no-BS interiors, and the Hilux follows suit. The pick-up comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a telescopic steering wheel, a powered driver’s seat, and a cooled glovebox.
Styling
It’s fair to say that while the Hilux looks pretty imposing and rugged with its 1,815mm height, huge trapezoidal grille, and beefy wheel arches – it does look a lot like a Fortuner.
The Hilux offers chrome inserts on various parts, LED foglamps, 18-inch alloys, and comes in five colors: White Pearl, Grey Metallic, Super White, Emotional Red, and Silver Metallic.
Pricing
The Toyota Hilux comes in three variants, which are priced as follows:
Toyota Hilux 4×4 MT Standard: Rs 33.99 Lakh
Toyota Hilux 4×4 MT High: Rs 35.80 Lakh
Toyota Hilux 4×4 AT High: Rs 36.80 Lakh
All prices are ex-showroom numbers. Toyota has also followed up with their usual competitive warranty packages – offering a standard warranty of 3 years or 1 lakh km on the Hilux. Buyers can also opt for an extended warranty of 5 years/2.2 lakh km.
Bookings for the Hilux have opened up at Rs 50,000 online and Rs 1 lakh in dealerships.
