In the Mini Cooper heirarchy, the John Cooper Works (JCW) stands atop the central step of the podium. It’s the most powerful, most engaging Mini you can buy, and is a significant step up from the model below it, the Cooper S. The two cars have the same 2-litre, turbocharged petrol engine, but the JCW puts out an additional 38 hp and 40 Nm, with figures of 231hp and 320 Nm – the JCW also gets an 8-speed automatic gearbox, whereas the Cooper S gets a 7-speed unit.
The JCW has styling that is bold and aggressive, with 17-inch alloy wheels, a range of paint options and an interior fitted with features that are normally optional extras on the Cooper S (you still have to pay extra for things like front and rear parking sensors, navigation and Apple Car Play).
Why would you pay Rs 43.5 lakh, ex-showroom, for all this, though? Because you’re loaded enough to not care, and because the JCW is incredibly engaging to drive, with a potent engine, a raucous exhaust note, go-kart handling and million dollar looks. Speak to your bank manager already.
