Mercedes-Benz India will soon be bringing in its crème de la crème offering, the Maybach S-Class sedan to India. And let’s just say, the features and specs offered on the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S-Class are enough to keep away any English competitors. Before Mercedes brings the Maybach S-Class to our shores next month, let’s take a look at some of its highlights.
Looks the part
If Don Corleone had to go somewhere to make an offer to someone that they can’t refuse, he’d use the Mercedes Maybach S-Class. It is easy to distinguish this four-wheeled saloon apart from its siblings. For starters, the Maybach S-Class gets an entirely redesigned bumper, with vertical slats on its chrome grille. Take a look from the side and you’ll notice wider rear doors and a fixed quarterlight on the C-pillar.
But what really makes the difference here is the two-tone paintwork, which comes with a dividing line known as the pin-stripe. Mercedes says this paintwork “is applied by hand according to the highest quality criteria.”
First-class seat? Yes, please
Step inside the Mercedes Maybach S-Class and you may never want to get out. Once you get in, the car’s onboard system can detect your presence and adjust the headrest accordingly. Also thanks to its 180mm longer wheelbase (compared to the S-class), there is plenty of room in the rear. With a backrest angle of 43.5 degree, you can stretch your legs as far as you can, or even take a nap.
Your own personal lounge
In case you get bored, there are two 11.6-inch displays for rear passengers, which can be controlled via a touchscreen placed in the armrest. It lets you access the music system, the panoramic sunroof or even the rear blinds. In case you’re tired after a long day of work, how about a back or calf massage on the go? Cough up a little extra and you can also get electrically operated comfort rear doors and a refrigerated compartment in the rear armrest.
Additionally, the ambient lighting at the rear is designed to suit the typical human daily rhythm. Mercedes also claims its active road noise compensation technology gives a “noise-cancelling-headphones-like” experience to the passengers.
All the bells and whistles you need
It wouldn’t be a true-blue Mercedes if it wasn’t packed to the brim with electronics. At the front, you get a 12.8-inch vertical OLED infotainment touchscreen, and an all-digital 12.3-inch 3D display. Here, you can control the sedan’s state-of-the-art features like active steering assist, lane-keeping and changing assist, and traffic signal assists.
Safety is taken care of by 18 airbags, including frontal airbags for rear passengers. You also get seat cushion airbags and seat belt airbags.
You can give it the beans
Internationally, the Mercedes Maybach S-Class is offered with two engine options—a 4-litre V8 which puts out 503hp of power and 700Nm of torque, paired to a 48-volt mild-hybrid system; and the V12 motor, which makes 612hp and 900Nm of torque. Both variants are mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The Mercedes Maybach S-Class gets an all-wheel-drive system as standard, and rear-wheel steering for better manoeuvrability.
