Mercedes India has been on a roll this year. After a slew of launches, the German carmaker has now introduced the gorgeous drop-top Mercedes-AMG SL 55 for Rs 2.35 crore (ex-showroom). The all-new Sl 55 wills serve as a replacement for the S-Class cabriolet, the AMG GT Roadster and will be brought here as a CBU unit.
Starting with the heart of the matter, the SL 55 which is positioned below the SL 63 packs a 4-litre twin turbo V8 motor under its hood, which makes 476PS of power and 700Nm of torque mated to a 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. Putting these numbers to the test, the roadster claims to sprint from 0-100kmph in mere 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 295kph.
Coming to the design, the highlight here is of course the triple-layer fabric roof which can be retracted on the go at a maximum speed of 60kmph. Mercedes also claims that the roof weighs nearly 21kgs lighter than the metal one on the previous-gen model. Other highlights include the updated Panamericana front grille, a rather large bonnet and 20-inch alloys as standard (can be upgraded to 21-inch).
Moving inside you’ll notice the interiors look similar to that of the S-Class and the C-Class models, with an 11.9-inch screen along with a 12.3-inch LCD driver display, dominating the interiors. It also runs on the company’s MBUX operating system with AMG-specific graphics. Another highlight here is the AMG twin-spoke steering wheel
Other features consist of a Burmester sound system and an optional AMG Track Race package and the option of choosing between five interior upholstery. This includes Black Nappa leather with more aggressive red stitching and more. Customers also have the option of choosing between two seat options which include the AMG sports seats and AMG performance seats.
In terms of competition, the SL 55 Roadster will go up against the Porsche 911 Cabriolet and Jaguar F-Type Convertible.
