Rolls-Royce has been owned by BMW for years now, but the brand is still considered the very epitome of luxe British motoring. Long the preferred choice of captains of industry, heads of state and others with no pocket money restrictions, Rolls-Royce motor cars are now also being bought by a much younger set of customers, such as rap stars and over-coiffed footballers. The company’s newest car, the Dawn, is aimed at this lot, and it’s based on the Ghost and the Wraith, two of the more ‘affordable’ cars in its portfolio.
Rolls-Royce claims that the Dawn is ‘the sexiest Rolls-Royce ever built’, which is quite a strong statement, given that some insanely gorgeous cars have come out of its factory over the years of its existence. Be that as it may, there’s no doubt that the Dawn is an arresting sight, as any Rolls-Royce with its top down is likely to be. The car seats four in opulence and its cabin is predictably luxurious, with almost nothing left out; the folding roof is a soft-top, as opposed to the hard-tops that can be seen on most modern convertibles, but Rolls-Royce claims that the cabin is as silent as its Wraith model when the roof is up.
A 6.6-litre V12 engine looks after the business end of things, and with 563 horsepower on tap, you can blow-dry your hair with the top down as the car rockets to 100 kph in under 5 seconds. If you want one, you’ll have to know someone who knows someone, since the first year’s production run is already sold out. Check out more about the car in this (slightly long) video.
