The Range Rover family welcomed its first convertible in India in the form of the new Evoque Convertible. Termed ‘India’s first luxury convertible SUV’ by the carmaker, the big car comes with a price tag of Rs 69.53 lakh ex-showroom, India.
The car is available only as the HSE Dynamic trim with the 2.0-litre Si4 4-cylinder Ingenium petrol powerplant.
The party piece on the car is its Z-folding Convertible Roof System that merges seamlessly with the rear bodywork when lowered. The electrically operated fabric drop-top folds completely in around 20 seconds and can resist speeds of up to 48kmph.
Other technology on the car includes the gimmicky Head-up Display that shows key vehicle data such as vehicle speed, gear position and navigation directions on the windscreen. Then there’s also Wi-Fi Hotspot that uses a SIM card to provide in-car access to a hotspot for up to eight devices.
The InControl – Pro Services and Surround Camera System cater to the connectivity and 360 degree viewing abilities of the car.
Beating at the heart of the car is the familiar 2.0-litre petrol mill that churns out 240PS of power and 340Nm of peak torque. The company says that it is capable of doing a 0-100kmph sprint in 8.1 seconds — 0.8 seconds slower than the standard petrol trim — and claims a top speed of 217kmph.
he ‘Torque Vectoring by Braking’ system is said enhancing the vehicle’s agility and stability during cornering and the All-Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) enables drivers to set and maintain a steady speed in challenging conditions.
Rohit Suri, JLR India president and MD expressed his excitement on the occasion. “The Range Rover Evoque Convertible combines the bold design and refinement of Evoque with a sophisticated folding roof. It adds another dimension to the Land Rover family, further enhancing its desirability and appeal,” he said.
