2022 MG ZS EV Launched In India

The all-electric ZS SUV packs a bigger battery pack and borrows heavily from the MG Astor

MG India has launched the all-electric MG ZS SUV today, priced between Rs 21.99 lakh and Rs 25.88 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). The MG ZS EV is offered in two variants: Excite and Exclusive. The 2022 ZS EV gets a host of cosmetic and feature updates, along with a larger battery that has an increased range of 461km.

Design-wise, the EV for India looks identical to the international-spec car. It gets the similar-looking sleeker LED headlamps and tail-lights, seen on the MG Astor. There are some EV-specific touches here too, with the front faux grille being replaced by a new, clean bumper, along with 17-inch alloy wheels. The charging port, which was housed behind the MG logo in the previous model, has now been moved to the side of the front bumper.

Moving to the cabin, the 2022 MG ZS EV gets a new 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, similar to the one seen on the MG Astor. Additional features include a 360-degree camera along with a host of driver-assist features like blind-spot detection, lane change assistance, adaptive cruise control and more.

Other convenience and safety features include a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, climate control, hill descent assist, six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC) and more.

Under the hood, the India-spec MG ZS EV packs a larger 50.3kWh battery pack, with a claimed range of 461km; an increase of 42km for the earlier model which came with a 44.5kWh battery pack. Power figures now stand at 178hp and 353Nm, up by 33hp over the older model. MG claims the ZS EV can do 0-100kph in 8.5 seconds.

MG’s all-electric ZS will primarily compete against the Hyundai Kona Electric, which is also due for a facelift later this year. Meanwhile, we’ll be putting MG’s claims to the test in our review. So stay tuned!
