After showcasing it at the Auto Expo, MG has finally launched the Comet EV in India for Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings of the EV are scheduled to start from May 15, with deliveries commencing in the same month. Starting with its dimensions, the MG Comet packs a more compact size than even the Tata Nano, with barely two metres of wheelbase. Although, it does stack up numbers in other departments, being around 15mm wider and 111mm taller than Maruti’s Alto K10
Design-wise, the Comet reminds us of the Reva EV of yore. It packs a two-door design with four seats, small glass housing and even smaller wheels. But fret not, it still gets some modernities like an LED DRL strip.
While MG offers multiple powertrain options internationally, the India-spec variant gets a 17.3 kW battery pack, which delivers a range of 230km on a single charge. Topping up to 100 per cent here can take up to 7 hours, with MG’s on-board 3.3kW charger. Meanwhile, it make 42PS of power and 110Nm of torque
Before its launch, MG had teased the interior of the Comet EV. It packs dual 10.25-inch floating wide screens, one of which serves as an infotainment centre while the other acts as a digital driver’s display. The rest of the interior looks plush and premium, with slim, horizontal AC vents and a textured finish.
The feature list here consists of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, with keyless entry, steering-mounted control, three USB ports and over 50 other connected features. Safety is taken care of by dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), reverse camera and more.
The MG Comet EV doesn’t face any direct competition in its segment but competes against the Tiago EV and the Citroen eC3 when it comes to pricing.
