Mercedes started the year with the launch of the all-new AMG E 53 4Matic+ Cabriolet. The 2023 model has been priced at Rs 1.30 crore, making it Rs 24 lakh more expensive than the E 53 sedan. (All prices, ex-showroom).
So, what do you get for the additional moolah? Starting with the basics, the E 53 Cabriolet ditches the four-door setup of the standard sedan for a two-door, four-seat layout. Under the hood, it packs the same 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine with a mild-hybrid system as its sedan counterpart. Combined, it puts out 457PS of power and 250Nm of torque.
This helps it in sprinting from 0-100kmph in 4.5 seconds, with power being sent to all four wheels via the company’s 9-speed automatic transmission.
Design elements here include AMG’s ‘Panamericana grille’ which sits on the now sporty bumper. However, the main highlight here is of course the drop-top roof which can be retracted or closed within 20 seconds, up to the speed of 50kmph.
On the inside, things remain largely similar to the E 53 sedan, with the only exception being the 12.3-inch twin-screen setup which serves as the infotainment system and driver’s aid display. Additionally, you do get AMG branded leather-wrapped, five-spoke steering wheel along with ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance, attention alert and more.
Convenience features here consist of a heated steering wheel, 64-colour ambient lighting and Burmester premium surround sound system. Currently, Cabriolet doesn’t face any competition in our market.
