Rumors that have been doing the rounds for a while now have finally been confirmed with Maruti Suzuki all set to launch the Jimny in India.

While the date of its arrival hasn’t been confirmed, a few details about the Jimny are out and that is sure to keep you excited about its launch.

The India-spec Jimny is slated to be a 5-door model. In terms of size, the 5-door compact SUV will see an increase of 300mm increase in length and wheelbase over the 3-door Jimny sold globally. Dimension-wise, we can expect the model to measure 3,850mm in length, 1,645mm in width and 1,730mm in height. It will have a 2,550mm-long wheelbase, slightly longer than that of the Vitara Brezza, with which it shares the engine.

Powering the Jimny for India will be Maruti’s 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with the 12V SHVS mild-hybrid system, making 102hp and 138Nm of torque. The engine—also found under the hood of the Ertiga, Ciaz and S-cross—is likely to get the choice of a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The compact SUV will be a four-wheel drive.

While it’s only the 5-door Jimny that’s been confirmed, for now, Maruti, at some point, could introduce the 3-door model that’s already being manufactured for export in India.
