Legendary cricketer Kapil Dev made a special appearance to help pull the covers off the new Wrangler

Jeep entered the Indian market with the Compass, which was met with a lot of success. But everyone was waiting for one legendary Jeep car to make its way to India and that was the Wrangler. Well, no more waiting because it’s finally here.

Legendary cricketer Kapil Dev made a special appearance who was specially called to pull the covers off the all-new Wrangler. “We wanted one legend to launch another legend,” said Kevin Flynn, President and

Managing Director, FCA India.

So what does the new Wrangler bring? It is now faster, longer, wider, taller and a lot more technologically advanced than its predecessor. The Wrangler has evolved to be suited for today’s adventure-seeker, but has retained the essence of the original Wrangler.

ENGINE

The Indian version of the car will be fitted with a 4-cylinder, inline, turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine that produces 268 HP and a whopping 400 Nm of torque. According to Jeep, “This 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol powertrain is tuned to perform like a V-6, deliver like a diesel engine and at the same time, ensure much better fuel efficiency than a larger capacity engine. It is tuned to deliver a meaty take-off and enable a smooth cruise on highways as well.”

INTERIOR

The interiors are covered in black leather and cleverly-placed silver accents. It also includes an 8.4-inch UConnect Infotainment System that supports both Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The music system is by Alpine and sound is played through nine speakers enhanced by an overhead sound bar, all-weather subwoofer and a 552-watt amplifier.

The new Wrangler is longer than its predecessor by a massive 130 mm, wider by 17 mm, taller by 9 mm and has 61 mm of extra wheelbase. The car pays homage to an era of Wrangler by retaining little things like external door-hinges. Also, it comes with a fold-down windshield and removable hard roof and doors that can be as easily dismantled and refitted just like the previous generation.
