After months of rumours and speculations, Jeep India has finally updated the Compass SUV for 2023. The new-gen model will retail for a starting price of Rs 20.49 lakh.
The American brand will offer the updated SUV in five different trims: Sport, Longitude, Longitude+, Limited, and Model S, with the former being offered only with a diesel-manual powertrain. The 2WD automatic transmission variant, on the other hand, is currently priced at Rs 23.99 lakh (almost Rs 6 lakh more affordable than before).
So, what’s new here? Select models of the lineup, mainly the Longitude (O) trim, will come with features like a panoramic sunroof and a wireless charger, in addition to the features offered on the earlier model. However, it should be highlighted that all trims of the new Compass will feature a different set of alloy wheels, while the new chrome grille will be available on the Limited and Model S variants.
Along with the standard trim, the company has also introduced a special ‘Black Shark Edition’ for the Compass, which, as the name suggests, comes with blacked-out elements on the badging, grille, alloys, and roofs. And yes, the interiors also get the same treatment, with red and black contrasting inserts giving it a rather sporty feel from the inside.
The Jeep Compass is now powered by a 2-litre diesel engine that produces 170PS of power, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic transmission. In case you opt for the former, Jeep will offer a front-wheel drivetrain, while the latter gets all-wheel drive functionality. Sadly, the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine has been shelved for now. Online reports claim that it might get reintroduced somewhere down the line with a special trim.
