Jaguar Land Rover has announced that it will launch its all-electric SUV, the I-Pace, in India on 9th March. The I-Pace is one of the few electric vehicles that offer truly high levels of performance; with its 90kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the I-Pace’s dual electric motors produce 400 horsepower and 696Nm of torque, which is sufficient to propel the vehicle from zero to 100kph in an impressive 4.8 seconds.

The I-Pace can be driven for up to 470km with a full charge, which should certainly be enough to alleviate the range anxiety that often afflicts EV owners. The 8-year/160,000km warranty offered for the I-Pace should also provide peace of mind to buyers.

Given the lack of an EV charging infrastructure in India, JLR will provide a dedicated charger (which can be wall-mounted in homes and offices) with every I-Pace and will also, as per some reports in the media, work with Tata Power to set up an EV charging network across the country, which should soon be operational.

The I-Pace comes with a price tag of £65,000 in the UK. In India, given our import duties, the price could easily go up to around Rs 1-1.20 crore. It certainly won’t be cheap but if money is no object, the Jaguar I-Pace could easily be the best of the bunch among high-performance electric vehicles available in India. We hope to do a full review in the next few weeks, so stay tuned.
