Elon Musk, now he world’s second-richest man, had a lot of doubters when he first started Tesla. Especially, from conventional carmakers. Tesla pioneered the modern, EV game, bringing other carmakers to its knees. Today, companies like Audi, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche are investing billions into their EV division. But there was once a time when the billionaire entrepreneur was treated like an “amateur car builder” by the CEO of one of the world’s leading luxury car manufacturers.
Around 10 years back, Musk has visited the Aston Martin factory. During the tour, the CEO was reportedly acting “quite grumpy.” The incident was first described in Ashlee Vance’s 2015 book Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future, but gained attention after a viral tweet on Wednesday evening.
According to a Yahoo News report, Ashley Vance mentioned how Musk fell into a slump after his divorce in 2008. His friend Bill Lee asked him to accompany him to London, to lift his spirits. During his trip, he decided to visit the Aston Martin factory, where The CEO treated the tesla founder “like an amateur car builder,” wrote Vance.

“Hey @elonmusk how did your visit in 2008 to @astonmartin change what you did with @tesla?” asked a Twitter account called ‘Tesla Owners Silicon Valley’.
The tweet went on to describe the visit, writing: “when Musk visited Aston Martin to see a tour of its factory, the CEO treated @elonmusk ‘like an amateur car builder'”.
Elon Musk confirmed the incident and admitted that the Aston Martin CEO was not quite in the wrong. “He was indeed quite grumpy, but we did not actually know what we were doing, so he had a point,” wrote Musk.
