Bentleys are often associated with class, sophistication, and overall luxury comfort. But what if there was a Bentley that could do all of this and sprint from 0-100kmph by the time you open your jar of grey Poupon? Maybe, that’s what the folks at the company envisioned when they were designing the all-new Flying Spur Speed.
Focusing more on the performance side of things, the Flying Spur Speed is the most powerful and fastest version of its luxury sedan, packing a 6.0-litre, twin-turbo W12 engine, making 635PS of power and 900Nm of torque. This is 85PS and 130Nm more than the Mulliner model. As per the British marquee, this helps the car in reaching a top speed of 333kmph, with 0-100kmph coming in 3.7 seconds, 0.4 seconds faster than the standard W12 model.
To make things slicker and faster, the Spur Speed makes use of an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission from ZF. This is the same unit that was seen on the Continental GT, which makes the shifts smoother by preselecting the gears, shortening the torque interruption between cogs.
Packing an all-wheel-drive system, Bentley has balanced the torque distribution to make the turn-in more responsive, minimizing understeer and making sure the sedan is agile around the corners. Helping its case further are its unique 22-inch “speed” wheels, with massive 420-mm rotors in the front.
Mechanicals aside, changes have been done to the overall design as well. The Speed Spur gets a new front splitter, rear diffuser, spoiler, and side skirts. All finished in carbon fiber, of course. Inside though, there it’s a typical Bentley with leather cladding all around, along with eco-friendly textile made out of 73 percent recycled polyester. And lest we forget there’s also a new performance mode added to the infotainment system, which takes inspiration from the chronographs used in motorsport.
While there’s no news on the pricing or even if it’ll come to India, Bentley does expect that most of the Spur Speeds will be sold in the U.S, Europe, and the Middle East.
