Designed by Filippo Perini, the Lamborghini Huracan was launched back in 2014 but has barely aged in the last eight years. With a facelift in 2017 (designed by Mitja Borkert, who has earlier worked at Porsche), the Huracan still looks stunning, with its sharp, wildly extroverted lines and hunkered-down aggression. Of course, Lamborghini has done its bit by launching a series of special edition variants over the years, which has kept buyers’ interest alive in this quintessential Italian supercar.

The latest Huracan variant to hit India is the Evo Spyder RWD, which eschews all-wheel-drive in favour of a more purist-friendly rear-wheel-drive setup. With an impressive 610bhp and 560Nm of torque from its 5.2-litre V10, the Huracan Evo Spyder can go from zero to 100kph in 3.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 324kph. The Spyder is fitted with an electrically retractable soft-top, which can be operated at speeds of up to 50kph. Of course, as long as it isn’t raining, most owners would like to keep that soft-top folded away to enjoy the Italian V10’s screaming, high-revving glory fully. That’s why you buy a supercar. Especially one that comes with the Spyder’s ex-showroom price tag of Rs 3.54 crore.

‘Huracan Evo RWD Spyder is a driver’s car, engineered for individuals who prefer to experience the feedback and engagement from the setup of a rear-wheel-drive car, where the electronic intrusion is minimised,’ says Francesco Scardaoni, Regional Director for Automobili Lamborghini in the Asia Pacific. Indeed, with a kerb weight of just 1,509 kilos (achieved partly due to the car’s lightweight aluminium and carbon fibre chassis), the Evo Spyder has a weight-to-power ratio of 2.47kg/bhp, which is impressive. It’s just as well, then, that the car features a specially tuned P-TCS traction control system that prevents things from getting out of hand, especially during hard high-speed cornering and drifting manoeuvres.

Like other Lambos, the Huracan Evo Spyder gets multiple driving modes, including Strada, Sport and Corsa, which optimise power delivery, gear shifts and steering response according to the mode selected, thereby allowing the driver to enjoy the car’s vast reserves of performance in relative safety. Yes, there are other supercars available in India – including those from companies like Ferrari and Porsche – that offer similar levels of power and driving finesse. However, Lamborghini’s unique blend of over-the-top styling and equally unrestrained performance – a theme that started with the 1970s Countach – remains unmatched. And the Countach spirit lives on in the Huracan Evo Spyder RWD.
