Ather has updated its 450X e-scooter with a host of new colours, software updates, additional features and a brand-new seat! Starting with the most visual update, the 450X can be obtained in four new colours – Cosmic Black, Lunar Grey, Salt Green and Ravishing Red. We had the chance of testing out the Gen 3 scooter last year, here are our impressions. 

Going a bit beyond the surface, the company also pushed out its fifth major software yet, with Atherstack 5.0. Along with a completely revamped UI, the scooter now comes with nifty little features such as Vector Maps, live traffic display, perspective change and more.   

However, the biggest update here comes in the form of the auto-hold function, which will lock your e-scooter on an inclined and declined surface without the need to touch the brakes. We had the opportunity to test out the feature in person and can report that it works rather seamlessly. At its community day event in Bengaluru, the company also announced that it is working on features like Cruise Control, Crawl Control and Advanced Regen, all of which will be rolled out in the next couple of months.

Other new additions here include a brand-new seat, which is narrower at the front and has a flatter mid-section, allowing more room for taller riders. The rear portion has also been raised a bit to improve support for the pillion. Ather also confirmed that the thickness of the foam is now increased by 14 per cent.   

Apart from the updates, the company has also announced upgrade plans for its Gen 1 scooters. Owners with scooters older than three years will now be able to upgrade to Gen 3 models by paying Rs 90,000 extra. Meanwhile, those with less than three years will have to shell out Rs 80,000. However, if you do upgrade it by March 2023, you’ll get an additional Rs 10,000 off.
