Audi is set to raise the bar of EVs with its all-new A6 Avant E-tron. The close-to-production luxury A6 Avant E-tron sedan was unveiled as a concept last year but it now appears to be heading for production soon.
The all-electric A6 will be based on Audi’s new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture that is being developed alongside Porsche. As per Oliver Hoffmann, Audi Board Member for Technical Development, “The PPE platform is the first completely tangible look at future production models.”
Right, but what does that mean? For starters, the A6 Avant E-tron will be the company’s rangiest EV, with 700km of claimed range. It’ll also be quick on its feet, with 0-100kph coming up in less than four seconds. Powering the EV will be a 270kW battery, which can be fast-charged to have a range of 300km, in just 10 minutes.
Design-wise, the A6 Avant E-tron will sport a similar silhouette as the Audi A6 and the A7, albeit with a modern, sleeker look. Engineers at Audi have paid extra attention to the aerodynamics in an attempt to extract maximum range from the luxury sedan.
Details remain pretty thin for now but the concept does seem to sport some top-shelf features such as Digital Matrix LED headlights and four LED projectors in the corners, which as per Audi “can create turn signal animations on the road.” This will be an interesting sight to see.
For now, the A6 Avant E-tron remains more grounded in reality than its other concept counterparts like the Grandsphere and Skysphere. We’re keeping our fingers crossed.
