Porsche appears to be on a roll lately. After unveiling the all-new Taycan EV, the German carmaker has now unveiled its most powerful production car yet - the Taycan Turbo GT, and boy is there a lot to unpack here.
Starting with the design, the sportier, meaner, Taycan now get a fair bit of aerodynamic bits, including a revised front end and rear bumper. Then there’s the optional Weissach package, which further adds bits like a fixed rear wing and air deflectors to the underbody. Other highlights here include new carbon ceramic brakes, along with forged 21-inch wheels, for weight-saving measures.
Porsche appears to have used carbon fibre quite a bit, with both the ducktail spoiler (found on the non-Weissach package) and the B-Pillar getting a fair bit of it. Inside though, the layout remains somewhat the same as the standard Taycan, with a few exceptions like bucket seats as standard, GT3 RS-styled steering wheels, paddle shifters and more.
In terms of performance, the Taycan Turbo GT churns out a whopping 1100PS of power and 1340Nm of torque. However, as per the official tests, this peak power can only be maintained for up to two seconds using Launch Control. In standard driving conditions, the output stands at 789PS. Nonetheless, this translates into a lightning-quick 0-100kmph sprint time of just 2.3 seconds on the standard model and 2.2 seconds with the Weissach package. However, the range of the new Porsche stands at just 555km on a single charge.
Adding more credentials to its sportier intentions, the Taycan Turbo GT recently set two new lap records at both the iconic Nurburgring and Laguna Seca, for road-legal electric cars. On the Nurburgring Nordschleife, it completed the 22.7km lap in just 7 minutes and 7.55 seconds, surpassing the old Turbo S by over 25 seconds and outpacing the previous record holder, the Model S Plaid Track Pack, by nearly 18 seconds. Similarly, At California’s Laguna Seca raceway, the Turbo GT clocked a lap time of 1 minute and 27.87 seconds, narrowly trailing behind the 1 minute and 26.75 seconds achieved by a Tesla Model S Plaid.
We expect the Taycan Turbo GT to arrive on our shores after the launch of the updated 2024 Taycan, which is expected later this year. Prices are expected to range around Rs 1.61 crore (ex-showroom). The Taycan Turbo GT will compete with the Mercedes-Benz EQS AMG.
