While it's expected to debut next week at the Los Angeles auto show, a few details have emerged, giving us a glimpse of what is expected, and boy do we need you to hold on to something for this.

From the first look, we can make out that the car is a lifted version of the 911 wearing off-road tyres, with small bolt-on fender flares, a skid plate and a deployable spoiler.

Powering it is likely a 3.0-litre twin-turbo version of the flat-six motor (449PS) used in the Carrera line-up.

Porsche claims the 911 Dakar has clocked some 6000 off-road miles in its development and 300,000 miles in total in what the automaker calls “extreme conditions.”

We’re not disputing those claims since Porsche has unveiled a bunch of stills of the car going over sand, ice, gravel in Morocco, Dubai, and Sweden.

Porsche even took the 911 up the world’s tallest volcano just to test its durability and ability in thin air.

This isn’t the first time Porsche will enter the deadliest off-road race in the world. The carmaker had clinched an overall victory back in 1984 with its AWD-fitted 911.
