RouteThe underwater metro line connects Howrah to Esplanade, crossing beneath the Hooghly River. The line will include stations at Esplanade, Mahakaran, Howrah, and Howrah Maidan.

DepthThe tunnel was constructed 33 meters below ground level and 13 meters below the riverbed. The tunnel was tested with two six-coach trains.

Travel timeThe new line will cover a distance of over 500 meters and reduce travel time from Sealdah to Howrah to just 40 minutes. This will provide a significant improvement to the current travel time of nearly 2 hours by road and help alleviate congestion.

Opening dateOfficials from the metro department have successfully completed the first trial run, and it is expected to take about 7 months for all of the trial runs and safety checks to be completed before opening to the public.
