In the current era of football, where wonder kids are often overshadowed by Messi and Ronaldo, some have managed to shine on their own, namely Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. However, there are a few who haven't been able to reach the promised ceiling.

NeymarNeymar was supposed to be the next torchbearer after Messi and Ronaldo’s reign. However, the Brazillian despite showing a lot of promise, haven’t been able to reach his full potential yet. With no World Cup or Ballon d'Or to his name and with a move to the Saudi league, Neymar will perhaps remain the biggest “What Ifs” of the current generation.

João FélixExpectations were high when Atletico Madrid signed Felix on a high fee, as an eventual replacement for Antoine Griezmann. Sadly though, after many years in Madrid and one unsuccessful loan spell to Chelsea, Felix is now a bench option to the Frenchman who’s since made his comeback to the club.

Anthony Martial Manchester United agreed on a Ballon d’Or clause when they signed Martial from Monaco. The Golden Boy award winner came with high expectations, which he managed to showcase glimpses of with his debut goal against Liverpool. However, since then the French international has been largely inconsistent with his fitness and injury record.

Mason Greenwood Mason Greenwood was considered to be a bigger talent than Marcus Rashford at one point, showcasing his footballing brilliance by being vital to the team at a very young age. However, with the recent developments, it is unlikely that Greenwood will ever feature for Manchester United or mainstream footballing for quite some time.

Ansu Fati Ansu Fati inherited the famous No. 10 jersey of Barcelona after Messi’s departure. However, the 20-year-old has been largely underwhelming under Xavi’s team, prompting a move away from Camp Nou this transfer season.
