One of the biggest trends we witnessed this year was the influx of the combination of black and gold watches. For 2022, many watch brands moved away from the usual steel-on-steel or steel-on-strap blend and adopted a more luxurious feel with a yellow gold and polished black look. Here are the ones that impressed us the most this season:
- Rolex Yacht-Master 42
Taking up the mantle for being the most relevant timepiece in this list is the all-new Rolex Yacht-Master 42. Set with an 18 ct yellow gold case with a black dial and an Oysterflex bracelet, the watch demands our attention. Keeping in tune with the earlier versions of this timepiece, the watch is fitted with a black bidirectional rotting bezel with a Cerachrom insert and Rolex’s latest-generation automatic movement.
- Panerai Luminor Goldtech Calendario Perpetuo – PAM01269
Making a case for the rising trend of black and gold watches, the Panerai Luminor Goldtech™ Calendario Perpetuo is an incredible piece of horology. Featuring a smoked sapphire crystal black dial that allows complete visibility of the day and date discs, the watch is made of Panerai’s exclusive Goldtech material that exudes refinement and understatement. Powered by Panerai’s groundbreaking caliber that offers a perpetual calendar complication, the watch will make an impressive addition to every watch collector’s collection.
- Hublot Square Bang Unico
With the Square Bang Unico, Hublot takes on a new watch shape that is inspired by the Maison’s iconic Big Bang. This timepiece adds a new pillar to its The Shaped Collection and comes with an in-house Unico movement that has been constructed with a column wheel visible at 6 o’ clock while its bicompax display dispenses with a dial to reveal its secret inner workings. The specially made square watch is available in a 42mm King Gold case with a black ceramic insert and a skeletonised dial. All of this strapped to a black decorated rubber with a King Gold and Black Titanium deployant buckle.
- Zenith Chronomaster Sport
Zenith has established a gold standard for automatic sporty chronographs with the release of its 2021 Chronomaster Sport. For 2022, Zenith expands this standard with the black and gold version of its popular Chronomaster Sport line. Focused on sporty aesthetics and performance-centric allure, the gold version of the Chronomaster Sport is available in a black dial with the signature El Primero tricolour counters with golden hands and applied markers. The watch is equipped with the newest version of the El Primero 3600 movement with an extended power reserve of 60 hours.
