This year’s diving watches are characterised by many new interpretations of old classics.
PANERAI SUBMERSIBLE S BRABUS BLACK OPS EDITION
Panerai’s first skeletonised automatic movement diving watch is a product of its collaboration with the German high-performance vehicle company Brabus, mainly their range of luxury day boats called Black Ops. Three years in development, the watch, which is water-resistant to 300 metres, comes in a 47mm Carbotech case in Brabus’ signature gunmetal grey, black, and red colour palette. The minute, hour, and small seconds hands are accented in Brabus-red, while the Brabus brand emblems are engraved on the crown guard lever, watch-strap, the movement, and the case back. Other features include the unidirectional rotating bezel to measure immersion time, GMT function, AM/PM indicator, and three-day power reserve with a Super-LumiNova coated sapphire crystal disk indicator. The dial features a patented polarised date display seen only through the opening at 3 o’clock without covering the skeletonised movement. Limited to 100 pieces.
OMEGA SEAMASTER DIVER 300M BLACK BLACK
The latest version of the legendary Omega diving watch is a play in black ceramic. The 43.5mm case, bezel, wave-pattern dial, crown, and helium escape valve are all in the same striking material, giving the watch a very distinctive sculptural look. The anthracite Super-LumiNova on the diving scale, the black PVD indexes and skeleton hands, and dot at 12H ensures visibility without affecting the overall aesthetic. The black rubber strap with a black ceramic buckle completes the full-black look. The self-winding Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806 has a power reserve of 55 hours.
CARL F. BUCHERER PATRAVI SCUBATEC MALDIVES
This is the fourth watch in Carl F. Bucherer’s partnership with the Manta Trust that works towards preserving endangered manta rays and their habitat. Part of the sales proceeds of this watch will go to the trust, and help build its new floating research station. The watch is water-resistant to 500 metres, comes with a 44.6mm steel case, a steel unidirectional rotating bezel with blue and white ceramic inlays, and a 60-minute scale with luminous markings. The bright blue dial features lacquered wave decoration. The CFB 1950.1 automatic calibre has a power reserve of 38 hours. The natural rubber blue strap comes with a fabric insert made of 100 per cent recycled bottles recovered from the Mediterranean Sea. Also available with a stainless steel bracelet.
AUDEMARS PIGUET ROYAL OAK OFFSHORE DIVER 42 MM
This watch is part of three new diving watches powered by a new automatic movement, Calibre 4308, equipped with a patented time-setting mechanism. It is water-resistant to 300 metres, and features a diving scale on the dial’s inner rotating ring activated with a unidirectional click mechanism linked to the 10 o’clock crown. The ‘mega tapisserie’ pattern blue dial features 18-carat white gold applied hour-markers, Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating, and a black rotating inner bezel with a zone from 60 to 15 minutes in white. Comes with two interchangeable rubber straps, in blue and black. Power reserve of 60 hours.
BLANCPAIN FIFTY FATHOMS BATHYSCAPHE
The first titanium watch in the line descended from the original Fifty Fathoms is water-resistant to 300 metres. The 43mm case comes with a satin-finished titanium bezel, a satinfinished ceramic insert, and a Liquidmetal time scale. The anthracite-coloured dial features a hand-crafted vertical matt satin finish. The effect is enhanced by the traditional luminescent baton-type hands and geometric hour-markers. The automatic Calibre 1315 has a power reserve of 120 hours.
LOUIS VUITTON TAMBOUR STREET DIVER SKYLINE BLUE
Part of a new collection of four diving watches that are water-resistant to 100 metres, this watch comes in a 44mm, two-tone case in blue-PVD and steel. The deep-blue dial features a small seconds hand at 6 o’clock, SuperLumiNova-coated white hands, numerals, and indexes in sky blue accents. The diving scale is located below the sapphire crystal on the turning flange — the angled ring at the outer edge of the dial. The dive bezel is set via a colour-contrasting crown at 1.30 bearing a divers’ silhouette to distinguish it from the winding crown at 3 o’clock. Using the ‘Align the V’ concept, the letter V on the diving scale is rotated to align with the colour-matched V at the tip of the minute hand, the two forming an X to indicate the beginning of a dive. The underwater time is then read on the internal bezel, the first 15 minutes highlighted by a vivid, colour-blocked scale. Comes with a navyblue rubber strap with a light blue logo or a light blue strap with a navy logo. Automatic movement.
ALPINA SEASTRONG DIVER 300 HERITAGE AUTOMATIC
This vintage-looking interpretation of the Alpina divers’ classic watch, the fifth in the line, is water-resistant to 300 metres, and comes in a 42mm steel case. The two pushbuttons (movement winding and time setting at 4 o’clock, adjustment of the movable flange at 2 o’clock) are screwed in. The moving inner flange is used to measure time in hours, minutes, and seconds. The black lacquered sunray-brushed dial features gold plated luminescent hands. The automatic AL-520 movement has a 38-hour power reserve. Comes with two straps, one in brown calfskin leather and the other in beige topstitched rubber.
TAG HEUER AQUARACER PROFESSIONAL 300 NIGHT DIVER – CALIBRE 5 AUTOMATIC
This new version of the TAG Heuer divers’ icon from the 1980s features a 43mm stainless-steel case, bezel, crown, caseback, and clasp, all coated in matt black diamond-like carbon — known as DLC — a high-performance, hard-wearing finish designed for extreme conditions. The bezel insert is in highly resistant black ceramic. As the name indicates, the watch is optimised for night diving. The fully luminescent dial is coated with green SuperLumiNova, which provides an exceptional glow in the dark. The minute and central seconds hands, and the triangle on the unidirectional rotating bezel at 12, are filled with blue lume. At 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, the octagonal hour markers are filled with green lume, while the remaining octagonal hour markers are edged with black lacquer. The 12 sides of the bezel are all faceted for grip, and the crown is protected to prevent accidental damage. Powered by Calibre 5 Automatic. Water-resistant to 300 metres.
LONGINES LEGEND DIVER
With two new versions in steel with blue or brown shades, Longines has finally introduced colour to the contemporary interpretation of its iconic divers’ watch. The 42mm case that is water-resistant to 300 metres preserves the pure lines of the original timepiece. The shaded blue dial features luminous hands, hour markers interspersed with luminescent squares and Arabic numerals enhanced with Super-LumiNova rectangle. And just like on the original model, the case back is decorated with an embossed emblem of a diver. The mechanical self-winding movement has a power reserve of 72 hours.
TISSOT SEASTAR 1000 QUARTZ CHRONOGRAPH
The quartz diving watch comes in a 45.5mm steel case, green dial, grey steel strap, and is waterresistant to 300 metres.
EMPORIO ARMANI SPORT INSPIRED DIVER
Three-hand divers’ watch in a 44mm steel case with rotating tachymeter bezel, complemented by the wave of two-tone aluminium. Waterresistant to 100 metres.
