Themed on what the Swiss watchmaking giant calls ‘the vegetal world’, the 2024 Oscars Greenroom takes Rolex’ famous colours — Cadmium Green and Metallic Sunburst — and decks out its latest lounge with fanned wall décor reminiscent of Rolex’s fluted bezelwork, comfortable and airy seating spaces, a private bar, and best of all — restricted access to keep pesky reporters out. Some lounges need fancy credit cards for you to walk in; this one’s all-access pass comes in the form of the iconic golden statuette.
The vegetal theme, according to Rolex, is more than a ‘mere tribute’; focusing on organic structures and palettes, while adopting a sustainably-sourced stance for all the materials — glass, fibre, ceramic — that make up the 2024 Greenroom. It all comes together quite gracefully; likely the perfect environment to get away from the hustle and bustle of the ceremony itself, grab a quick drink, and indulge in conversations privy only to Hollywood’s ’24 Oscar winners (and presenter Jimmy Kimmel).
Apart from a series of wall and table clocks, Rolex has also included a wall-recess display of the Oyster Perputal Day-Date 40; a particularly eye-catching model fashioned in 18ct Everose gold with a slate ombré dial.
The model will likely be spotted in the audience as well — Rolex has a long association with Hollywood both on and off-camera, with the Day-Date being spotted on the wrists of figures like Sylvester Stallone, Leonardo DiCaprio, and even Omega ambassador Daniel Craig. Dozens of Oscar-winning titles have characters that wear Rolexes; from the early Bond films’ Submariners to the DateJust in American Psycho, Day-Dates in The Wolf of Wall Street — even legendary directors Martin Scorsese and James Cameron have official ties to the brand.
Catch us at the Oscars this weekend, where we’ll be taking a closer look at Hollywood’s horological choices.
