The MoonSwatch is a platform that watch afficionados seems to pradoxically hate to love, and love to hate. For every naysayer there seems to be a delighted supporter of the project — a growing group that's excited to see watchmaking age 'down' a little bit, throw its hair back and have some fun for once. If anything, industry titans Omega and Swatch agree wholeheartedly; so much so that two years in, we have our first major spinoff in the form of the Snoopy-themed Bioceramic MoonSwatch Mission To The Moonphase.
Snoopy collabs are nothing new, especially for Omega. On October 5th, 1970, NASA gave the Omega Speedmaster a Snoopy award, the first of its kind, to highlight Omega’s fundamental contribution to the positive outcome of the Apollo 13 mission. Apollo 13 crew-members wore Omega Speedmasters on the mission. Using them to perfectly synchronize all crucial activities before and during re-entering of the Earth's atmosphere, they managed to land safe and sound. Omega released the first Snoopy Speedmaster back in '03, following up with the Silver Snoopy in '15 and the brilliant white-blue 50th anniversary in 2020.
Inspired by the luminous full moon, the new edition features a pristine all-white design. Crafted with a Bioceramic case, crown, pushers, and a VELCRO© strap, it embodies a sleek and futuristic aesthetic. Contrasting sharply, the chronograph’s seconds hand, subdial hands, and the tachymeter-scaled bezel are presented in black, while the subdials themselves and the bezel's background maintain the white theme.
The watch distinguishes itself with its moon phase complication, a feature often celebrated for its romantic representation of time. At the heart of this function is an image of Snoopy, appointed NASA’s safety mascot since the 1960s, depicted resting on the moon. This whimsical addition is located on the moon phase disc within the subdial at the 2 o'clock position.
An added intrigue is the watch’s capacity to reveal a hidden message under UV light—a quote from a Snoopy comic strip surrounded by crescent moons and stars, enhancing its unique charm. This special detail is found on a distinctive subdial. Further embellishing the watch's appearance is the OMEGA X Swatch branding, along with the renowned Speedmaster and MoonSwatch logos, adding a layer of iconic collaboration to the design.
The timepiece's architecture is notable for its biosourced glass, etched with the Swatch logo at its centre, and the delicate circular pattern adorning the dial's outer ring. The meticulously designed recessed subdials, sharply constructed lugs, and the celebrated “dot over 90” detail on the Bioceramic bezel echo the heritage and innovation of its makers. Additionally, the indexes and hands are coated with Grade A Super-LumiNova® for visibility in low light, highlighting the watch’s blend of tradition and modernity.
Featuring the usual quartz ETA G10.212 movement featured in other MoonSwatches, the watch is expected to retail at $310 or Rs 25,767 at all Swatch outlets.
