Surfing through the novelties released by Zenith at the LVMH Watch Week 2022, one can notice that the focus this year is the DEFY series. DEFY Skyline

Crafted in a 41mm stainless steel case with a 12-sided bezel and featuring a new “starry sky” patterned dial with a new 1/10th of a second counter at 9 o’clock (a first for the DEFY time and date model), the new DEFY Skyline ushers in a new era of the DEFY series. Dedicated to those forging ahead towards a goal and objective, the dial of the DEFY Skyline, as the name suggests, represents the night sky above a bustling city that never sleeps.

The Zenith DEFY Skyline ushers a new era for the DEFY series.

Available in three metallic colours of blue, black and white, the star-studded dial features a sunburst finish decorated with a perfectly aligned pattern of an engraved four-pointed star. Adding something new to the dial for the first time is the small counter at 9 o’clock that features a constantly running 1/10th of a second hand that completes one revolution every 10 seconds. This reminds the wearer of the fleeting nature of time and signifies the excellence of the El Primero 3620 movement working within. Visible through the sapphire case, the EL Primero 3620 offers precision of the highest level and beats at 5 Hz, thus making it a “natural” fraction-of-a-second indication.

The DEFY Skyline is available in three dial colours; blue, black and white.

DEFY 21 Chroma

While many brands have taken up the idea of a rainbow-themed watch and covered it in coloured gems, Zenith follows this route with an inventive take. With the DEFY 21 Chroma, Zenith reimagines the rainbow-themed timepiece by adding colours where least expected. It means the watch is filled with colourful sections stretching from the different components of the movement to the rubber ring of the crown and caseback.

Zenith reinvents the rainbow-themed timepiece with the new DEFY 21 Chroma.

Zenith uses white (which is not a colour itself but a combination of all the colours in the visible light range) ceramic with an all-over matte finish for the 44mm case. It acts as the canvas to inculcate the different colours of the rainbow. Starting from the red index marker at 12 o’clock and then shifting through orange, yellow, green, blue, violet and pink clockwise. The dial houses tipped coloured hands on the chronograph counters and a yellow rubber grip on the crown. The see-through dial correspondingly showcases the extraordinarily decorated movement – the El Primero 21 automatic – with each bridge finished in a different metallic colour.

The DEFY 21 Chroma features a 44mm case in white ceramic with an all-ver matte
finish.

The Zenith Defy 21 Chroma is limited to 200 pieces and is available in white rubber with a white “Cordura effect” strap and multicoloured Titanium triple folding clasp.

DEFY Midnight

Zenith brings us two new versions of their famous women’s DEFY Midnight collection, from sunsets to northern lights. When the collection first launched in 2020, it established itself as the ultimate ladies watch with a versatile sporty-chic aesthetic. This time around, Zenith adds new variations to the mix with two new dial options reflecting the ephemeral yet endlessly captivating phenomenon of the sky – the DEFY Midnight Sunset and DEFY Midnight Borealis.

The two new versions of the DEFY Midnight collection feature dials inspired by
sunsets and the northern lights.

The two editions are available in a 36mm stainless steel case decorated with brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel. The guilloché engraved dials are set with a wave-like pattern reflecting the rays of lights emanating from the sole applied star near the top of the dial.

In the DEFY Midnight Sunset, the dial houses a warm red tone that transitions to a deep yellow colour that perfectly captures the colours of sunset. The colours on the dial of the DEFY Midnight Borealis is inspired by the aurora borealis or northern lights that can be seen around the arctic circle. It features a midnight blue dial that gradually shifts to a bright emerald green colour as you move towards the bottom. Both the dials are further accentuated with diamond hour markers and a date window at 3 o’clock.

Set in a 36mm stainless case decorated with brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel, the
two variations of the Zenith DEFY Midnight is beautiful to say the least.

The 2022 DEFY Midnight series is powered by the Elite 670 automatic movement, which provides a 30-hour power reserve. Both the versions come in a stainless steel integrated bracelet, and three supplied leather, textile and rubber straps in additional colours.

All new releases from Zenith will be available at all Zenith boutiques and authorised retailers worldwide.
