At the beginning of the year, we checked out the Amazfit GTR 2, we were quite impressed with the build quality. It’s one of the better wearables from this year in the sub Rs 15K price point. The GTR 3 duo picks up the baton from the GTR 2. It’s the Pro version that has our attention. This is certainly a step up for Amazfit as it nears the Rs 20K threshold with this premium offering. More importantly, is this as a step up for you and the best smartwatch under Rs 20K?

Design and build:

The strong suit for the GTR 3 Pro. We checked out the Infinite Black version with a silicone band. We dig the brushed metal, dark grey finish on the case that is complemented by the premium quality silicone band. There’s also a Brown leather version. It’s easy to swap the bands with leather straps or silicone bands of your choice. The most striking (literally) feature of the GTR 3 Pro is its large, vibrant display. This circular 1.45-inch AMOLED Ultra HD display packs 331 pixels per inch and is one of the most gorgeous on any smartwatch. There are two buttons on the right spine, the top button also doubles up as a scroll wheel that can be used for navigation.

Wellness pitch:

Smartphones have continued to evolve with an increasing array of wellness features. This is an area where the GTR 3 Pro holds its own. I found the ‘One-tap Measuring’ feature a handy inclusion. All you have do is hit this button and keep your wrist still for 45 seconds. You get four key metrics delivered on one screen – blood oxygen saturation (SpO2 levels), heart rate, breaths per minute and a stress level score. There’s a raft of workout modes that cover almost any form of outdoor or indoor fitness activity that you are likely to try. The sleep tracking feature was quite accurate in our tests too. Overall this is an area where Amazfit doesn’t let you down.

Connectivity and smartwatch features:

Amazfit’s Zepp companion app has been refreshed, the user interface has been improved and is less cluttered now. I paired this watch with an iPhone 13 and it was seamless. One of our continuing cribs about the Zepp app and Amazfit wearables is the lack of a genuine app ecosystem. The GTR 3 Pro doesn’t really change that. You get heaps of watch faces, 2GB plus storage space to port songs on to the watch, a speaker for calls when your phone is hooked up via Bluetooth and also Alexa on your wrist. That’s about it.

Bottomline:

The Amazfit GTR 3 Pro is a worthy contender in the Rs 15-20K smartwatch segment. It scores with a terrific display, an elegant design, wellness options and workout modes. At about one week, battery life is acceptable. Fitbit’s Versa 3 offers a more comprehensive fitness app (Especially for Fitbit Premium users who pay Rs 999 per year) while the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 (that has just seen a price drop) offers more apps. If you’re in the market for a smartwatch with a sub Rs 20,000 price tag, the GTR 3 Pro deserves to be in your consideration set.

What we like: Build quality and design, display, wellness features
