Bulgari pays tribute to the world’s most beautiful training ship – the majestic three-mast Amerigo Vespucci – with the second edition of its Aluminium collection, called the Bulgari Aluminium GMT Amerigo Vespucci Special Edition watch that is limited to just 1000 pieces.
Made using a combination of aluminium, titanium and rubber, the elegant and refined special edition watch is dedicated to the proud and elegant youth of the Italian officers in training aboard the Italian Navy’s Amerigo Vespucci training ship. These young officers in training perpetuate the spirit of exploration of the Italian adventurer Amerigo Vespucci after whom America was named.
What is the Amerigo Vespucci?
Vespucci was a famous 15th century adventurer and explorer who was the first to reach the American continent. The Amerigo Vespucci is a three-masted Italian Navy ship that followed in the footsteps of the Florentine explorer and is now a veritable institution. It is a training vessel that instills the value of excellence, tradition and service to the community into the minds of young Italian officers. The vessel’s motto “Non chi cominicia ma quel che persevere” (Not he who begins, but who perseveres) has guided the vocation of generations of officers since 1931.
About The Watch:
The Bulgari Aluminium GMT Amerigo Vespucci Special Edition watch symbolises the Italian esprit de corps and perseverance of the Amerigo Vespucci. To commemorate this adventurous spirit, Bulgari takes its Aluminium collection and gives it a renewed look by creating an aesthetic that plays with convention while perpetuating heritage. Taking the original vision of the Bulgari Aluminium, which was born in 1998, the Italian watch brand breaks with the strict conventions of traditional watchmaking and offers the comfort of a unique, sporty, reliable and modern watch with the Aluminium GMT Amerigo Vespucci Special Edition.
The timepiece celebrates the discoveries that revolutionised the era of sailing in the wake of the great explorers. It comes in a 40mm aluminium case with a black DLC-coated titanium back that has been engraved with the ship’s name “Nave Scuola Amerigo Vespucci” and its motto “Non chi cominicia ma quel che persevere” (Not he who begins, but who perseveres). The black dial of the watch bears the inscription Aluminium GMT and houses rhodium-plated hour-markers and hour and minutes hands filled with Super-LumiNova®.
Like any good travel watch, this timepiece too features the second time zone to be read off with the help of the luminescent arrow-shaped hand that makes one full turn of the dial in 24 hours. Furthermore, two contrasting 12-hour zones in black and yellow ensures the wearer recognises the distinction between day and night. All of the different functions the watch offers are powered by Bvlgari’s automatic movement BVL Calibre 192 that clocks in a 50 hour power reserve.
Finally adding more function to the watch is the articulated rubber strap that meets the dual requirement of robustness and flexibility while enabling all kinds of audacity in this watch intended for natural-born explorers. The 1000-piece limited edition watch comes in a dedicated presentation box made of mahogany wood and engraved with the BVLGARI ALUMINIUM signature and the training ship’s motto “NON CHI COMINCIA MA QUEL CHE PERSEVERA”.
