Getting Environmentally Engaged With Panerai
Getting Environmentally Engaged With Panerai

Panerai adds its proprietary eSteel material to its popular Submersible collection, and we are here for it

The watch industry has been mesmerised by the sophistication of what a brand can offer regarding its movement, design, and overall look. But with the changing times, there is an excellent shift in the consumer’s attitude. Today, attention has turned to watch brands trying to lessen the environmental effects of creating and developing a timepiece. Panerai has been at the forefront of this new movement.

With a sharp focus on moving to practices that reduce the ecological impact of every aspect of the watch industry, Panerai has committed itself to developing strategies for a sustainable future, including reducing waste and promoting recyclable and reusable materials. This strategy has taken form with the announcement of adding Panerai: environment-friendly eSteel™ material to one of its most popular collections — the Submersible — with the QuarantaQuattro eSteel™.

This timepiece recognises sustainability’s critical importance while maintaining the brand’s signature design codes and technical finesse. 72g or 52% (total watch weight is 137g) of the watch is made from recycled materials.

However, what is eSteel™?

Containing the same properties as that of conventional steel, eSteel™ features identical chemical behaviour, physical structure, and overall resistance to corrosion. The presence of eSteel™ is indicated via an engraving on the crown protection device and an additional inscription on the dial.

The watch comes in a 44mm brushed eSteel™ case with a brushed eSteel™ ceramic anti-clockwise rotation bezel with a graduated scale (a first for the brand). The screwed case back and brushed steel Safety Lock crown protection system further adds to the Panerai DNA. It is available in three dial options: grey, deep blue, and green, enhanced with luminous hour markers and dots. The polished dial is further accentuated with a date display window a 3 o’ clock and small seconds counter at 9 o’ clock.

Working within this magnificent piece of horology is Panerai’s own P.900 automatic movement with a thickness of only 4.2 mm and a power reserve of three days. The timepiece sticks to its diving watch category by clocking in water resistance of 30 bars (approximately 300 meters).

The Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro eSteel™ is available in two straps. Both come in the same colour as their companion dial. Conforming to its sustainability effort, the first strap is made of fabric made from recycled PET. In contrast, the second is made from recycled rubber. The watch also comes with a tool that allows strap interchangeability and a screwdriver to remove the buckle.

All three models will be available exclusively in Panerai boutiques and online at panerai.com.
