Captain Cook Gets A New Skeleton Heart
Captain Cook Gets A New Skeleton Heart

The addition of a new skeleton movement adds both technical and aesthetic appeal to the hugely successful line of high-tech watches

Rado’s Captain Cook collection is admired equally by explorers in urban landscapes or wilderness settings. A new version, Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton, in rich tones of matt olive-green and rose-gold, now joins the successful line, extending the brand's `art of skeletonization’ theme. It incorporates the explorative power of the mineral world into a high-tech ceramic creation in new shades of matt olive-green, alongside the sunny rose-gold PVD treatment.

The matt olive-green high-tech ceramic case looks more vegetal and organic, trimmed by warm rose-gold detailing in perfect complementarity. The watch offers the same precision as the earlier anthracite-coloured Captain Cook skeleton model, thanks to its identical R808 movement which comes with a power reserve of 80 hours. Finishing in different shades allows distinct elements such as the centre-wheel bridge and the horizontally brushed platine to stand out. The movement has been tested for precision in five positions rather than the usual three, and is equipped with a latest generation anti-magnetic, ultra-reliable Nivachron hairspring.

The 43mm matt-finish monobloc case is topped by a rose-gold-colour rotatable bezel with a matt olive-green circular-brushed ceramic insert to match the case and lugs. On the inside of the bezel, a ring in matching olive-green tone is finely graduated with sixty second/minute markings, framing the signature Captain Cook box-shaped sapphire crystal, with a slight grey tint and treated with anti-reflective coating on both faces. The dial is clear and spartan, with geometric indices and hour/minute/second hands in rose-gold tones, treated with white Super-LumiNova.

The trademark Rado moving-anchor symbol rests on a tasteful synthetic ruby backplate, while the dial shows the customary logo, name, and water depth-resistance indication. On the flip side, the nickel-coloured circular-brushed titanium case-back is equipped with a sapphire crystal that displays the movement.

The watch leans on the sportier direction, thanks to a matching olive-tone rubber strap similar to the ones used on the collection’s diver models, equipped with a touch of high-tech ceramic, a small clasp-cover to hold two rose-gold-coloured pushbuttons.
