Swiss Haute Horlogerie Manufacture Audemars Piguet joins hands with Italian jewellery designer Caroline Bucci for the third time to unveil to limited-edition 34mm Royal Oak Selfwinding in black ceramic. The timepiece is also a part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Royal Oak. This special timepiece houses a dial with mirror effect that pays tribute to the iconic Tapisserie design. The limited-edition Royal Oak Selfwinding 34mm timepiece is designed for both men and women, and will be available exclusively in Audemars Piguet boutiques and AP Houses.
The most unique feature of the watch is the dial as it symbolises Bucci’s focus on contrasts. On the first glance, the watch reveals a simple back dial, but on closer inspection one can notice the multi-coloured spectrum that brings the Tapisserie effect to life in the ever-changing light. To achieve this result, the sapphire plate of the dial is decorated with little squares that is added on top of the brass with micro-structuring creating a rich rainbow-coloured play of light.
Additionally, a golden metallisation created especially for the occasion is added to the back of the sapphire plate to create a mirror effect that shines light onto the dial. With this treatment, each pattern of iridescent varies from the other making each dial different and unique. “I wanted to place a rainbow in the most unexpected of places, a little like when you see oil floating on a puddle in a city street… So here you have every colour of the spectrum on a canvas that is completely black, which is itself the absence of colour,” says Bucci.
The limited-edition 34mm Royal Oak Selfwinding is crafted in a 34mm black ceramic case and bracelet that are highlighted by hexagonal pink gold screws that not only secure the bezel but also create an elegant contrast of colours. The titanium and sapphire caseback is engraved with the inscription ‘Limited Edition Carolina Bucci.’ It also reveals the Calibre 5800 working within that offers time and date function and a power reserve of 50 hours.
The watch comes in a presentation box that has also been designed by Carolina Bucci.
