Every day you come across news that is bound to disappoint you and make you exclaim in unison: “WTF!” So here’s your weekly dose of shocking stories from across the country that made headlines (and trended) for their sheer stupidity. Take a look.

Pehredaar Piya Ki goes live

This bizarre television show is finally on air and showcases a love story between a 9-year old boy and an 18-year old woman. Starring Afaan Khan and Tejaswi Prakash Wayangankar, this show already has the Twitter fraternity fuming over the story line which includes normalizing child marriage and, of course, showcasing a young boy stalking woman.

IIFA’s “Nepotism Rocks” chant

At this year’s IIFA awards, Taapsee Pannu received the “Woman of the Year” award. But then, ironically, deviating from the “women empowerment” theme, three privileged men ( Karan Johar, Saif Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan) took it upon themselves to take filthy digs at a Kangana Ranaut, a self-made woman for speaking out against nepotism.

Anupam Kher ventures into the web series genre

Anupam Kher is entering the digital space and how? The actor who is known for his nationalistic stance is now producing a web series based on the India-Pakistan war of 1971. Kher, who last announced that he will play former PM Manmohan Singh on the silver screen, has been actively involved in the current political scenario of the country. He was one of the most fierce critics when the Award-Wapasi controversy happened and has also been a vocal supporter of the army (and a critic of the opposition).

So we’re presuming that this may be another of way to achieve catharsis with his on-going nationalism spree. We wish him the best of luck.

Durjoy Dutta book to be adapted for a web series

According to reports, Durjoy Dutta’s novel, World’s Best Boyfriend, is soon going to be adapted into a web series and we are definitely NOT excited about it. Durjoy Dutta has already troubled us with his coming-of-age novels in succession and now we’d have to endure that on the big screen as well. This is definitely the most troubling news we’ve heard in a long, long time.

Presidential elections

He may be the new president of the country, but not a lot of people (especially members of the opposition) seem to be happy about this. PM Modi’s surprise pick for the candidacy raised many eyebrows and most people had to actually Google who Ram Nath Kovind is. But the most surprising event that took everyone by surprise is the fact that he won with over 7 Lakh votes, against opposition candidate, Meira Kumar.
