Back in October 2020, we checked out the first device in Samsung’s new F series – the F41, that landed in the ultra-competitive sub Rs 20,000 segment. The Samsung Galaxy F62 marks the latest addition to this series, the F here refers to ‘Full-on’, Samsung’s take on a device that should please all types of consumers. A device that packs the right doses of all the stuff people demand from their smartphones – a crisp display, a dependable cam, good looks, and a battery that won’t let you down. Is the F62 all of this?
Samsung uses the ‘laser’ prefix to describe the three colour variants. It backs this description with thin lines in a classy, ribbed pattern that accentuate the colour gradient. We tested the laser green colour option that swings from a gorgeous emerald green to a metallic silver. It looks premium, the F62 looks pricier than its sticker price. Isn’t that what we all want out of our smartphones? The ‘glastic’ (Samsung’s description is appropriate for a device with a polycarbonate back that can pass off for glass) back does like fingerprints though. At 218 gm,
this device is not feather-light but feels surprisingly good in your hands for that heft. Can this be attributed to the design approach or the fact that we’re getting used to heavier smartphones? The answer might well be a combination of both reasons.

The main reason for this heft is the 7000 mAh battery under the hood. In many respects, the F62 is an improvised version of the Galaxy M51 that was launched in Q3 2020 at a similar price point and value proposition. I found myself charging the device only after two days when I didn’t use the camera much and didn’t catch too many videos. That’s mighty impressive. Most average users who don’t have time for intensive gaming or who don’t use their smartphone as their primary binge-watch screen might experience similar battery results. As for power users, this device should still comfortably sail through a day if not more. The
25W fast charger in the box is the cherry on the icing.
One of the key improvisations over the M51 is the placement of the rear camera module. This symmetrical design approach is one of the standout features of the F62. The 32MP selfie cam and the quad rear cam are both similar to the M51. The rear shooter combines a 64MP primary lens, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, a 5MP depth sensor, and a 5MP macro lens. Results are quite good in lowlight; we also dig the portrait mode and macro images that this shooter snaps. The other highlight of this device is the 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display (1080 x
2400 pixels / 393 PPI). Colors are vibrant but we’re surprised that Samsung has opted not to go with a 90Hz refresh rate at a time when these displays are no longer rare at this price point.
The Samsung Galaxy F62 lands in a price band (Rs 23,000 – 26,000 with its two variants) that can be described as a sweet spot with a solid device that covers almost all bases. The choice of processor – the Exynos 9825 (that powered the Note 10 devices) is a masterstroke and gives this device serious fire power; there’s a choice of 6GB/128 GB and 8GB/128GB variants that both come with expandable memory (via a dedicated slot aside from a dual SIM slot). This is a device that should please all types of users; sometimes one size does fit all.
The Samsung Galaxy F62 comes in three colours – Laser Green, Laser Black and Laser
Blue and costs 23,999/- (6GB/128GB) and Rs 25,999 (8GB/128GB)
