We all complain about it and yet it’s happening because of us. Smartphones have become clunkier, devices that cross the 200gm threshold are no longer the exception. While we blame the manufacturers, we’re the ones seeking devices that have it all. A large display, zippy processors and a battery that can keep up with those Netflix binges. But just like every fashion trend, there’s usually a inflection point. We’re seeing this with smartphones too; not everyone wants a bulky device. The all-new OPPO F19 Pro+ 5G is aimed at such folks. It’s the lead device in the F19 series duo (that also features the new F19 Pro) that OPPO has just unveiled.
You’re likely to expect a wow moment when you hold this device in your hand for the very first time. It weighs just 173 gm and is less than 8mm thin; it feels really remarkably light in your hand for a device with a 6.43-inch display. We checked out the Space Silver colour option that looks elegant. Although it’s crafted with a plastic back, it still looks premium and does a decent job holding off smudges and fingerprints. This is a device, you might be compelled to flaunt without a back cover. The rear camera bump isn’t too pronounced and blends well into the overall design.

The F19 Pro+ manages to push the screen: body ratio beyond 90% with the 6.43-inch AMOLED display (2400 x 1800 pixels). Colours are vibrant, visibility is good under sunlight but it’s missing a high refresh rate that quite a few devices now offer at this price band. OPPO’s Color OS has got better over the last couple of years. It’s less cluttered, OPPO has also reduced the bloatware that comes pre-installed with the device. We wish it was even more visually appealing though.
Aside from the form factor, our favourite feature of the F19 Pro+ is its stellar video camera performance. The device brings together a quad rear cam headlined by a 48MP primary lens. OPPO hasn’t stopped talking about the AI Highlight Portrait Video mode on its premium devices. This cool feature optimises video portraits by automatically detecting and adjusting the light levels. It worked really well in our tests, we also enjoyed using the Dual Video mode that we first tried on the OPPO Reno 5 Pro 5G that allows you to put yourself in the frame even as you shoot with the rear cam. This a solid all-round read camera while a capable selfie cam (a 16MP shooter in this case) is a given with OPPO.
At the heart of this device is a MediaTek Dimensity 800U processor that teams up with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal Memory. There’s a dedicated slot for a Micro SD card aside from a dual SIM slot. The device handled our tests quite well, it notched a score of 1758 (multi-core) in our Geekbench test. It’s not the zippiest processor in this segment but it’s enough firepower more most users. The 4300 mAh battery won’t let you down. OPPO has bundled a 50W charger in the box that powers your device in well under an hour. We think OPPO has found the perfect balance between a slim form factor and a robust battery.
The OPPO F19 Pro+ is worth checking out if style and a minimal footprint are key purchase drivers for you. If you’re a heavy-duty gamer, you do have other options. A high refresh rate would have been a great inclusion in this device that also scores with its video camera modes.
The OPPO F19 Pro+ 5G costs Rs 25,990. It’s available in Fluid Black and Space Silver.
