OnePlus TV40 Y1S Review

Smart TV experience on a budget

Over the past few years, we’ve checked out multiple products from OnePlus Smart TV line. The OnePlus TV Y Series is the brand’s entry-level range. These TVs aim to deliver an immersive experience packed with smart features and the ‘connected’ OnePlus ecosystem experience at an affordable price point. We checked out this TV through what has been a keenly contested IPL 2023 and also watched the last few episodes of the fourth and final season of Succession that kept us totally hooked. It gave us enough time to evaluate the OnePlus TV40 Y1S.

Familiar bezel-less design

If there’s one discernible trend in the smart TV space over the past couple of years, it’s the disappearing bezels. It’s a good thing. Budget TVs look good in your living room amidst your artefacts. The OnePlus TV40 Y1S is no exception. The remote is intuitive and elegantly designed too. OnePlus likes to call it a ‘burdenless user experience’. It’s ultra-sleek and can also fit into a compact bedroom or the kids’ room.

Hassle-free Setup

The TV40 T1S is powered by Android 11. Like most other Android TVs, set-up is a breeze. You can hook up your smartphone using OnePlus Connect 2.0. and use your handheld device to operate your TV. You can also pair the OnePlus TV with up to five devices at the same time. One of the useful features in the OnePlus Connect app is ‘One Click Cleanup’ which ensures that when you are done using an app on your TV, it does not continue running in the background.

Vibrant colours

OnePlus’ Gamma Engine which is at the heart of the brand’s smart TVs is one of the headline features of this TV. OnePlus claims the Gamma Engine smart-tunes the visuals to provide bolder dynamic contrast and vibrant colours. Colours are quite vivid, this is one of the better displays at this price point. You also get a Full HD display along with HDR10+, HDR10, as well as HLG format support for a superior viewing experience. Gaming is a big part of the pitch for most smart TVs. Gamers will appreciate the ALLM (Auto low latency mode) that keeps things ultra-smooth. The 64-bit processor delivers 30% better performance for even faster navigation and loading time. OnePlus has kitted this TV with two full-range speakers with a combined output of 20W that adds to its appeal as a gaming screen.

No-brainer for OnePlus users

We’ve said this before, it’s always best to stick to the same brand as your smartphone when you pick a TV. It’s the same with OnePlus’ smart TVs. The TV40 Y1S offers a seamless ecosystem and easy inter-operability between OnePlus devices. For instance, you will an instant prompt when you pull out your OnePlus from the case. I was able to connect my OnePlus watch with a single click and then use the watch to turn on and off the TV 40 Y1S. The other cool ‘connected’ feature is Smart Sleep Control, that will turn your TV off when your OnePlus watch detects that you have fallen asleep. One of the many handy features that makes it easy to recommend the OnePlus TV 40 Y1S for OnePlus users and anyone looking for a smart TV around Rs 20K.

The OnePlus TV 40 Y1S costs Rs 21,999. There’s an instant cashback of Rs 1,500 for ICICI Bank customers.
