OnePlus Starts Its Folding Journey With The OnePlus Open

The company’s first foldable device has been priced at Rs 1.39 lakh and comes in a standard 16GB RAM and 256GB Storage configuration

The era of foldables has begun in India. Smartphone manufacturer OnePlus launched its first foldable offering, the OnePlus Open, yesterday for Rs 1.39 lakh, featuring a 16GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration. With a rather compact and slim design, the OnePlus Open hosts a 6.3-inch front display that can be unfolded into a large 7.8-inch tablet screen.

While the outer display features a 2K resolution and 431ppi, the inner screen boasts a Flexi-fluid AMOLED panel with a peak brightness of up to 2800 nits. Regarding the resolution, the larger display features 2440 x 2268 pixels with 426 ppi, and both panels have a standard 120Hz refresh rate.

Turning to the camera, the OnePlus Open features five sensors, including two front-facing ones. However, the primary sensor consists of a 48-megapixel camera with Sony’s LYT-T808 “Pixel Stacked” CMOS technology. It is paired with a 64-megapixel telephoto camera and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera. OnePlus claims that the camera can record videos in 4K at 60FPS.

Powering all of this is the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, with the company’s OxygenOS 13.2 based on Android 13. Power comes from a massive 4,805 mAh battery that supports 67W fast charging. OnePlus claims that the Open can go from 1 to 100 per cent charge in just 42 minutes.

As for the hinge itself, the ‘Flexion Hinge’ is built around a single-spine architecture that the company claims is sturdier and lighter, and also consists of fewer parts, reduced from the standard 100 to 69. Impressive. Let’s not forget that the foldable also comes with a triple spatial speaker setup, a first in the segment. This setup, according to OnePlus, helps recreate a sound design similar to that of premium laptops. We’ll be sure to put these claims to the test as soon as we get our hands on a review unit. Until then, stay tuned!
