Here’s some good news for all the soccer…err…footballs out there. Our very own Ted Lasso, the fictional AFC Richmond team’s fictional coach, will be seen in the next FIFA franchise! And yes, he will be a usable character in Career Mode.
For those who are unaware, Ted Lasso is an Apple TV original which premiered back in 2020. It tells a story of an American football (not soccer) coach handling the reigns of a championship team in England. Playing the American is Jason Sudeikis, whom we’ve seen in movies like We’re The Millers, Horrible Bosses and more.
Along with the addition of Lasso, the AFC Richmond team will also be playable in Career Mode, Kickoff, Online Friendlies and even the Online Seasons. And yes, he will be with his whole squad consisting of Dani Rojas, Sam Objsanya, Jamie Tart and more at their fictional stadium – Nelson Road. EA has also confirmed that “a number of AFC Richmond items including kits, tifos, Manager items, and other content will also be available to unlock across FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) and Pro Clubs where applicable.”
Speaking about his new role, Brett Goldstein who plays Roy Kent added, “It is so f***ing cool to be in FIFA. I’m not sure this is going to help dispel the CGI rumours but f*** it, totally worth it. look forward to beating my nephew in a game with me as Roy Kent and him as Jamie Tartt. He’s gonna be furious.”
Meanwhile, in a press release, Sudeikis said: “I am truly fortunate and deeply grateful, to have had many special moments in my career thus far, and I consider this experience among the best of them. As long-time fans of EA SPORTS FIFA, having Ted Lasso and the whole AFC Richmond squad incorporated into the newest version of the game is truly a dream come true for myself and the rest of the fellas. ”
