It’s getting tougher to keep up with the ever-expanding Amazfit portfolio of smartwatches. Just a couple of months ago we checked out the Amazfit GTR 2, Amazift has already rolled out a follow-up wearable. This one’s the GTR 2e, it rides heavily on its wellness features including SpO2 tracking and a body temperature sensor. The GTR 2e trims some features that may not be deal-breakers for many consumers at a slightly more affordable price point. Does it tick the right boxes for you?

The best thing about the GTR 2e is its near-weightless form factor. I wore it on a couple of days when I spent a lot of time outdoors in sweaty, humid conditions and I barely felt it on my wrist. Amazfit opts for a lightweight aluminium alloy and a silicon band. The watch is finished with 2.5D glass that seamlessly blends with metal. The 1.39-inch AMOLED display (454 x 454 pixels) is identical to the GTR and the GTR 2. This is a good thing; it packs an impressive 326 pixels per inch (PPI) and it offers great visibility in all lighting conditions. Add the customizable straps and a tonne of watch faces and you get a smartwatch that scores with its fashion quotient. We checked out the Obsidian black color option with its dark grey gun metal finish, we also dig the mildly funky Matcha green variant.

The GTR 2e misses out on a couple of features that we used on the GTR 2. There’s no in- built speaker, so you can’t answer calls with the phone in your pocket. You get call and text alerts though. Then on-board storage for music gets a boot too. Both these features are not critical for many users including myself. I didn’t enjoy transferring music from my laptop on to the GTR 2 even though I’d count patience among my virtues. Just like all other Amazfit devices, pairing is a breeze with the Zepp companion App. I set this up on an iPhone 12 Mini;

it works equally flawlessly with Android devices. The App is also your window for watch faces. There’s not a lot of smartwatch functionality other than alerts and watch faces. But the GTR 2e comes with a raft of wellness features.

SpO2 tracking or measuring the oxygen saturation in your bloodstream has become a key metric in a post-pandemic scenario. This is a useful feature at this price and it works quite well – I got it working with my second reading. Of course, you have to do all the same things as placing your wrist still on a table and fastening the strap very tight for an accurate reading. I’m less convinced about the watch’s body temperature sensor; I might continue to stick to a conventional thermometer for the moment. Aside from regulars like sleep tracking, there are

also 90 exercise modes that keep track of your varied workouts. This also includes swimming – the GT 2 e offers 5ATM water resistance (up to 50 metres).

The Amazfit GTR 2e delivers good value at its four-figure sticker price. Our favorite features include the design aesthetic, the solid battery life (24 days), the vibrant display, and wellness features that most folks with active lifestyles need to keep tabs.

(The Amazfit GTR 2e costs Rs 9,999)
