Timing Every Minute: The Hublot Big Bang e FIFA World Cup Watch

Set with a new ‘timeline’ feature and a ton of dial colour options, Hublot unveils the new and improved Big Bang e FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 limited-edition connected watch

The 2022 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in Qatar, marks the fourth consecutive edition where Hublot is the Official Timekeeper. And to celebrate this important milestone, Hublot has unveiled its innovative new Gen 3 connected watch—the Big Bang e FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. This smartwatch will time all 64 games during the FIFA tournament, including the final at the Lusail Stadium in Doha on December 18. It will also be spotted on the wrists of the 129 official referees who will be monitoring all the games.

All set to time every minute of the prestigious event, the new Big Bang e FIFA edition is equipped with an innovative ‘timeline’ function. This feature takes fans of the world’s largest football tournament right into the heart of the action, even before the match begins. How does it do that? With the help of a new design that displays a scale split into five sections, sitting at the outer edge of the dial. These sections indicate the first and second halves, and any additional time allowed in each half, and during half time. So, whenever any action takes place on the field, the watch will show a match event animation with all the details. For example, if a player scores a goal, then the watch will show an animation mentioning the player’s name with a football symbol at the appropriate minute mark on the scale.

This function works for all other significant highlights of the match, like a penalty or a red or yellow card. Additionally, this feature automatically shifts into different gears according to the progression of the match. The watch display automatically switches to extra time mode if the game is extended beyond standard time of 90 minutes. And during a penalty shootout, each penalty is recorded by a football with a green or red outline. A final ‘match period animation’ with the final score is displayed when the game is over. While all this is happening, the user can replay these events during an ongoing game. All one has to do is scroll around the dial using the watch’s crown on the case side at 3 o’clock.

The Big Bang e FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is a Gen 3 connected watch and according to the brand is the ‘highest performing Big Bang e to date’. It is available in a 44mm case made from micro-blasted and polished black ceramic and black titanium, and is water-resistant to 30m. Its impressive hardware specification includes an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a microphone, speakers, GPS, and a heart-rate monitor. Hublot’s new offering is driven by the state-of-the- art Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 processor, powering the Wear OS 3.0 Google operating system. One of the most impressive features of the watch is its in-depth association with every glorious game moment. The large, improved, high-definition screen and a newly designed dedicated football app help capture every tournament moment.

The Big Bang e FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 also houses many modes that allow the wearer to feast on every tournament detail, that too, from the comfort of their wrists! In terms of battery backup, the connected watch comes with a promise of all-day battery life and a two-hour charge to full from empty. Limited to just 1,000 pieces, the watch can be personalised, thanks to various dial options available to the wearer via its accompanying smartphone app. The official version comes in a deep burgundy dial presented on a black-and-burgundy lined rubber strap, inspired by the rich hues of Qatar’s flag. Fans can also choose the dial and strap designs in the colours of each of the 32 participating countries.
