Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli has recorded another century, but this time, not on the pitch. He recently became the first cricketer in the world to have 100 million followers on social media platform Instagram. According to NDTV, the 32-year-old Kohli is also the first person in the Asia-Pacific region to hit the 100 million followers mark.

 

“Virat Kohli – the first cricket star to hit 100 million followers on Instagram,” the ICC tweeted. Kohli is also the fourth most followed sportsperson on Instagram.

Portugal football star Cristiano Ronaldo tops the chart with 265 million followers, ahead of Argentina football captain and FC Barcelona legend Lionel Messi and Brazil”s Neymar, who are second and third in the list with 186 million and 147 million followers respectively.

 

The others in 100 million club are Hollywood actor and former pro-wrestler Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson, American singer-songwriter Beyonce, and Ariana Grande.

 

Kohli, regarded as one of the best batsmen in the world, has 27 centuries in Test matches and 43 tons in ODI cricket.

 

Kohli shared a video highlighting some of his favorite posts on Instagram that also marked important landmarks in his life. The video begins with the words “milestone achieved together”. “You have made this journey beautiful. Feeling blessed and grateful for all the love. Thank you,” Kohli captioned the post, and added “100 million #instafam”.

 

The video shows a childhood picture, a photo from his wedding day and one with his mother. It also focuses on a gym photo, one with the Indian Test team and a picture with the famous 87-year-old fan who Kohli met during the 2019 World Cup.

 

Kohli is currently in Ahmedabad ahead of the fourth and final Test against England, which begins on Wednesday. It will be his 60th Test match as the skipper of the team, and he will equal MS Dhoni’s record of most number of Tests captained for India.
