It took PSG less than ten seconds to bury the ball into the back of the net against Lille, and in the course of the next one and half hours, they added six more goals to finish the game with a scoreline of 7-1.

A couple of seconds into the game, Lionel Messi received the ball from Neymar around the centre, and set it up in the path of Kylian Mbappe with a dinking cross that sailed over the entire defence. Mbappe received the ball with presumptuous ease and, lobbed it over the surging goalkeeper to give PSG a lead.

It was a goal that felt straight out of the training ground, also equalling Michel Rio’s strike for Caen in 1992 as the fastest goal ever scored in Ligue 1 history. Later on, the French daily L’Equipe clarified that Nemer’s goal came a second early.

The PSG coach Christophe Galtier said the U-19 team has scored a very similar goal this week, and he showed the clip to the PSG’s main squad. “Our Under-19 team did it in the youth league against Salzburg,” Galtier told. “We showed it to the players. They were OK to try it. So, we worked on it in training and it was very well executed tonight.”

Ahead of the fixture, a clip involving Mbappe and Messi, in which the latter plays a backpass to set the French striker free in front of the goal, went viral. The PSG fans will be relieved to see their attacking troika of Neymar, Messi, and Mbappe combining with each other to great effect.

Mbappe finished the game with a hat-trick, and two of his goals were set up by Neymar, who himself netted twice in the game. Only last week rumours about the rift between them floated after Mbappe had a verbal duel with Neymar over a penalty. He made things worse by deliberately shoving Messi.

But all seems well in the PSG camp, and Galtier was happy to see his attacking unit putting aside personal differences and helping each other out on the field.

“It’s a real satisfaction to see them happy on the field, playing for each other. Obviously there is talent, and when this talent comes together, it makes for a very enjoyable match,” said Galtier.
