Wikipedia Summoned By IT Ministry After Arshdeep Singh Gets Labelled ‘Khalistani’

The ministry fears that the act would lead to communal disharmony in the nation

The Wikipedia executives in India have been summoned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) over the vandalization of Arshdeep Singh’s Wikipedia page.

Arshdeep, who had a tough night during India vs Pakistan fixture in the Asia Cup, was labeled as “Khalistani” in his Wikipedia entry. The term “India” was replaced by “Khalistan” by an anonymous editor, whose IP address was found to be located in Pakistan. The ministry fears that the act would lead to communal disharmony in the nation.

“Wikipedia executives have been summoned. We are taking this seriously. There are indications that there may have been Pakistani involvement and this could have had implications on our national security and harmony,” a government official said.

The probe will be headed by MeitY secretary Alkesh Kumar Sharma. It’s not only on Wikipedia but even on social media, where Arshdeep has been referred to as “Khalistani”. He was lambasted on social media for dropping a catch during the crucial juncture of the match.

In the 18th over, Asif Ali’s attempted slog sweep rose high into the ground. Arshdeep did well to get under the ball but couldn’t grab the chance, and later on, Asif struck a four and a six in the next over to kill the game.

Arshdeep, however, did a great job in the final over – dragging the game to the second-last ball despite having almost nothing to defend. In the penultimate over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar conceded 19 runs, thus giving Arshdeep the cushion of just seven runs.

If Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel don’t recover in time, Arshdeep will be the leading the pace attack, alongside Buvneshwar Kumar.
