Euros is the dream tournament of every individual football player, and he looks to represent his nation in this mega tournament. But there have been quite a few surprises as some national teams have not picked some significant players in the squad. Since not all the national teams have released the squads for the tournament, the list is restricted to only some countries. This list is dominated by French players who speak highly of their squad depth.

5) Diogo Dalot (Portugal)

Diogo Dalot has had a stellar season on loan with Serie A side AC Milan. He was influential in securing the runners-up spot for them. Not only should he have been selected for his defensive qualities, but he was also one of the main attacking threats for his team going forward. He has an incredible weak foot, meaning he can play on the left-wing and the right-wing. He can even play in three at the back and five at the back formations, proving that he is a very versatile player.

4) Anthony Martial (France)

Anthony Martial has had an abysmal season in terms of statistics and playmaking ability in general. He was amongst the goals and assists for his team last year but couldn’t replicate that form to this year. He was expected to go to the Euros and his country, but a late and deserving spot was given to Karim Benzema, returning to the French side after a very long gap. Martial was part of the last international friendlies, making it inevitable that he might be on the squad. Therefore, his exclusion comes as a surprise.

3) Dayot Upamecano (France)

France’s national team is full of talented center-backs, so much so that even one had to change his nationality to participate in the Euros. Dayot Upamecano is a very gifted center-back playing for RB Leipzig and would move to current UCL champions Bayern Munich in the summer. He would be the lead defender at a big club, suggesting he is a top-quality player, and his pace as a defensive player makes him dangerous. His name was also not in the squad, and the French Manager and head coach Didier Deschamps decided to go with their original center-backs from the last international friendly. But a player like Upamecano cannot be ignored for long, and it would be seen when next he will be part of the squad.

2) Theo Hernandez (France)

The most surprising of the French players were the exclusion of Theo Hernandez. He has had an excellent season with AC Milan and has been a critical member of their team. It was almost guaranteed that he would be selected for the French side after such a spectacular season, but it wasn’t the case at all. Even the injury to Ferland Mendy, the starting left-back for France, didn’t add up to his point. Only the French Manager and head coach Didier Deschamps knows the reason as to why he has not been selected for such a tournament.

1) Sergio Ramos (Spain)

The most surprising shock that the football fans got was the exclusion of Real Madrid and Spain captain Sergio Ramos. He has been the mainstay for the Spain Defense for almost fifteen years now, and his exclusion is something significant to be looked out for. Even at an old age of thirty-five, he can be the captain and lead the side to Euro glory once again. Head Coach Luis Enrique has only selected twenty-four out of the allotted twenty-six players, which was a bizarre decision in general.

These names come as a shock to football fans, and the players would be hoping to make a return or join the team soon, but at the same time, they would want their team to excel and bring the major trophy home.
