#FarewellToALegend: Rio Ferdinand Leads The Tributes to Wayne Rooney

It’ll be extremely hard for someone to break Rooney’s record of 253 goals in a Manchester United jersey.

Regardless of what happens in the future, Wayne Rooney will always be a Manchester United legend. He has been the club’s top goal-scorer (finding the net 253 times), helping them win five Premiership titles and one UEFA Champions League title. It’s a little sad that his time at Old Trafford has come to an end, but we all know that Rooney is past his prime and no longer good enough to play for a club of United’s stature. Yes, we may be proven wrong, and Rooney might score a lot of goals for his childhood club Everton. But, that is something only time will tell.

From all the tributes that were posted on social media, probably the one from Rio Ferdinand takes the cake. Among the many things he said in a long Facebook post, his comparison with Cristiano during their younger years is probably the most striking. “Even when Manchester United signed a £12m pound Portuguese wonderkid of a similar age by the name of Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne was still the more mature footballer at the time. Cristiano at the time more interested in showboating while Wayne was all about doing things to affect the game and fit in as a total team player,” he said.

Let’s take a look at some other heartfelt tributes for Wazza.
