On Sunday, April 24th, Sachin Tendulkar turned 49, and celebrated the occasion with his family and dogs. Birthday wishes from all over the world poured in on social media.
Virat Kohli, Vivian Richards, and Virender Sehwag amongst others wished the Little Master. However, England’s Barmy Army created a stir with a birthday post that didn’t go down well with many fans.
Barmy Army posted a picture where Sachin was walking back to the pavilion, while a host of England players were celebrating his dismissal in the background.
To many, it felt like the fan group was taking a subtle dig at Sachin. Amit Mishra, the former India spinner, responded to the post by making a collage of Sachin’s memorable knocks against England.
Many fans decided to school Barmy Army by highlighting Sachin’s impeccable record against England. One user highlighted that the Little Maestro is the only Indian with three 150+ scores against England.
One fan posted a video from an ICC World Cup fixture, where Sachin played a glorious pick-up shot against Andrew Caddick for a six. It was a fitting reply to Caddick, who had made fun of the batting maestro for scoring against the weak Namibian side.
Another user reminded Barmy Army of the 2011 World Cup, where Sachin Tendulkar scored a brilliant century against England, and eventually finished among the leading run-scorers.
Sachin also holds the record for scoring most runs without being dismissed for a duck, as pointed out by one user.
